How To Choose A Pre-Workout That Actually Works

Everybody has their own take on pre-workouts. Some people swear by them. Others say they’re a waste of time and mainly, money. While there are numerous worthless pre-workouts and supplements on the market, I’ve found a few pre-workouts I like – pre-workouts that worked for me, along with others.

Depending on your budget and needs, every guy will have different wants and needs for a pre-workout. If you workout in the mornings before work, you may want something that gives you a nice boost from a quick jolt of caffeine. If you workout during the day, you may be looking for something that provides you with a great pump and sustained energy without the “jittery” feeling. If you workout in the evening, you may want a pre-workout with little caffeine while still increasing you pump and gains.

No matter your needs, here are a few pre-workouts I’ve found to actually “work”:

Creatine & Coffee

Simple, but effective – Victor Pride advocates for this pre-workout in his classic “Body of a Spartan” and for good reason. This combination is a great pre-workout for beginners. Coffee has an ample amount of caffeine and caffeine has been proven to be one of the most effective “performance enhancers” available to everyone. Creatine is also one of the few supplements outside of steroids and testosterone that has been proven to increase power in athletes.

Overall: Creatine & coffee is a great pre-workout for beginners, guys in maintenance mode and broke dudes.

Muscle Pharm Assault

If you’re looking to step things up from creatine and coffee or taking nothing, Muscle Pharm Assault is a great option. I’d recommend this pre-workout for all guys under the age of 21. Muscle Pharm tests all its supplements to ensure all their products are banned-substance free. This makes Assault a great option for high school and NCAA athletes. The product itself works well. You’ll get a great pump while feeling energized.

Overall: Muscle Pharm Assault is one of the best pre-workouts for men ages 18-21, and all athletes who may get drug-tested.

Cellucor C4

I’m torn on whether or not I like Cellucor C4. On one hand, the product gives you a great burst of energy and focus while in the gym. You’ll get a great pump and you’ll find yourself lifting heavier than before. However, the product does not react well with my body. Once on C4, I gained a bit of weight around my section. I’d also feel sluggish for hours after my workout when I took C4.

Overall: Cellucor C4 is a good pre-workout for guys looking to add strength and size, but it’s not a great supplement if you’re looking for a leaner look.

Amino Energy by Optimum Nutrition

Amino Energy by Optimum Nutrition is another pre-workout I’m on the fence about. You’ll feel great energy-wise and get a decent pump from the product. However, this pre-workout will not add any mass to a man. It’s a great pre-workout if you’re looking to maintain your size while still having good energy in the gym, but you won’t get much bigger by taking Amino Energy.

Overall: Amino Energy is a good pre-workout for guys looking to lean up or maintain their gains. You won’t add mass by taking Amino Energy.

If you’re looking to get bigger without steroids, test or anything too crazy – I highly suggest PPN’s GunPOWDER. This product will help you pack on lean muscle in a short amount of time. You’ll feel a focused energy without the jitters. Your pump will be insane and it’ll last. I got huge when I was on this product and was weighing around 207 pounds. People who hadn’t seen me in a month or two started referring to me as “Big Swole” when we reconnected. I didn’t like carrying that much mass, so I changed things up.

Overall: PPN GunPowder is the best pre-workout I’ve found for adding a good amount of lean mass in a short period of time.

Bullnox Androrush

I just started taking Bullnox Androrush the last week or so. And so far I love this pre-workout. I’ve noticed a slight increase in the amount of lean muscles I’m carrying around on a daily basis. My workouts have been very focused while on Bullnox and the pump is great, but my favorite part about this pre-workout is I don’t feel sluggish once it wears off (like C4). The pre-workout is supposed to act as a testosterone booster. While I’m weary of such claims, I do feel good throughout the day when I take it.

Overall: Bullnox Androrush is my favorite pre-workout on the market right now. If you’re looking for a new pre-workout, I highly recommend it.

*I hope these recommendations help some of you guys when trying to select a new pre-workout and I wish you all the gains your heart desires. As per usual, there are some affiliates links above. If you cannot discern the location of said links, you have bigger issues than choosing a new pre-workout.
